Our Curriculum
The curriculum that we offer at Stars Montessori Academy and Out of School Care has been thoughtfully crafted with the intention of fostering the overall growth and development of young children. We develop an atmosphere in which every child is able to express their creativity, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning by providing them with learning opportunities that are both engaging and hands-on. These opportunities include Art Exploration, Language and Literacy, Music and Movement, Science and Nature, and Cultural Studies.
Practical Life Exploration and Skills Development
Our Practical Life program immerses children in meaningful, hands-on activities that promote creativity, attention to detail, and a sense of purpose. Designed to match their developmental needs, the materials encourage children to refine movement, develop focus, and foster independence, coordination, and a natural sense of order. Through activities such as self-care, caring for the environment, and demonstrating respect for others, children build essential life skills in a supportive setting. By mastering these tasks, they gain confidence and a sense of accomplishment, reinforcing their readiness for future learning.
Our Routine:
- Engage children in daily activities that are meaningful and foster creativity and independence.
- Provide materials that support coordination, focus, and organization, suited to their stage of development.
- Guide children in activities like personal care, maintaining a tidy environment, and showing respect to others, helping them build valuable life skills.
Language and Literacy:
We provide children with an environment that is abundant in print, including books, labels, and signs, so that they can become accustomed to reading and writing as part of their everyday life. The development of linguistic abilities and the stimulation of imagination can be fostered via the use of storytelling and theatrical play. Our teachers encourage children to engage in conversations about books, during which they are encouraged to ask questions and share their ideas. This helps the children improve their language abilities and cultivate a profound love for reading and sharing stories.
Our Routine:
- Create a print-rich environment with labels, signs, and books accessible to children.
- Encourage storytelling and dramatic play to develop language skills and imagination.
- Foster discussions about stories and encourage children to ask questions and express their thoughts verbally.
Music and Movement
The fabric of our daily routines is woven with music, with songs serving as transitional markers and providing a cheerful soundtrack to fun. Movement is also a part of music. Children are given the opportunity to play with sound and rhythm through the use of a wide range of musical instruments that are available for investigation. While simultaneously setting the framework for musical literacy, simple songs and dances are taught to children in order to foster the development of gross motor skills, coordination, and the joy of movement.
Our Routine:
- Incorporate music into daily routines and activities, such as singing songs during transitions or playing background music during playtime.
- Provide a variety of musical instruments for children to explore and experiment with.
- Teach simple songs and dances that promote gross motor skills and coordination.
Mathematics
Our mathematics program offers children a concrete foundation in essential mathematical concepts through hands-on learning and interactive exploration. Beginning with the understanding of quantity, children learn to engage with numbers in a tangible way, building familiarity and confidence. Through the manipulation of materials designed for counting, sorting, and simple operations, children explore mathematical relationships and patterns. These activities help develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills, fostering a strong foundation that supports future learning and a genuine interest in mathematics.
Our Routine:
- Introduce children to quantity concepts through tactile and visual learning tools.
- Encourage hands-on exploration with numbers, enhancing their understanding through direct manipulation.
- Guide children in recognizing patterns and relationships in math, building their confidence and foundational math skills.
Cultural Studies
Our Cultural Studies program introduces children to a world of fascinating subjects, sparking curiosity and broadening their understanding of the world. Through engaging activities in geography, history, zoology, botany, and peace education, children explore diverse cultures, natural environments, and the importance of respect and harmony. By learning about animals, plants, and global communities, they develop an appreciation for the interconnectedness of life. This immersive approach not only builds knowledge but also fosters empathy, encouraging children to become compassionate, informed citizens.
Our Routine:
- Introduce children to geography, history, and natural sciences through hands-on, interactive lessons.
- Encourage curiosity about the world with activities focused on animals, plants, and cultural diversity.
- Integrate peace education to nurture respect, empathy, and understanding of global communities.
Science and Nature
Through the study of science and the natural world, our curriculum encourages children to develop into young explorers and scientists. It is important to cultivate children’s sense of wonder and respect for the natural world by providing them with opportunities to view and engage with the natural world through the establishment of nature corners and outdoor areas. By participating in hands-on exploration activities such as nature walks and straightforward scientific experiments, children are able to develop their capacity for observation and inquiry. Learning about the world is transformed into a fascinating experience through the introduction of ideas such as the weather, the seasons, and many different creatures.
Our routine:
- Set up a nature corner or outdoor area where children can observe plants, and other elements of the natural world.
- Conduct simple science experiments and investigations, such as planting seeds and observing their growth or exploring the properties of water.
- Take nature walks to explore the local environment and engage in hands-on exploration.
- Introduce concepts such as weather, seasons, and animals through age-appropriate books, discussions, and activities.
Our routine:
- Encourage open-ended art activities where children can freely express themselves without strict instructions.
- Incorporate sensory art experiences like finger painting or exploring textures with different materials.
- Display children’s artwork around the classroom to celebrate their creativity and build their confidence.
Art Exploration and Creativity:
Our classrooms are lively places where children are encouraged to participate in open-ended art activities. These activities provide them the opportunity to freely express their thoughts and emotions regarding the world around them. Children are encouraged to explore a world of colour, shape, and form via the use of sensory art experiences such as finger painting and investigating textures. These activities contribute to the development of children's creativity as well as their fine motor skills. By prominently displaying each kid's artwork, we honour the artistic journey that each child has taken, so adding to their sense of success and boosting their confidence.
One of the most important aspects of our educational program is the celebration of variety and the development of global consciousness through the study of cultural studies. Children gain a deeper understanding of the diverse communities that exist around the world when they investigate the various cultures, traditions, and festivals that exist. The incorporation of multicultural literature, music, and art is done with the intention of exposing children to a wide range of cultural viewpoints. The children are encouraged to engage in conversations on respect, empathy, and inclusivity, which assists them in appreciating the parallels and differences that exist between different cultures. We also encourage children to investigate their own cultural identities and to talk about the traditions that their families have, which will enrich our community with the stories that they have to tell.
A loving atmosphere in which children can develop into self-assured, inquisitive, and compassionate individuals is the goal of Stars Montessori Academy and Out of School Care. This is accomplished via the implementation of a curriculum that is both comprehensive and active. It is our belief that by providing assistance for the complete development of every child, we can enable them to become learners who continue to learn throughout their lives and responsible citizens of the world.
